Walnut Bookcase Cabinet

This bookcase cabinet was built by me as a Christmas present for my wife as storage for her collection of cookbooks. The cabinet is built from highly figured walnut and curly maple. The lumber was purchased rough cut and I handplaned the surface of one side and then used a power planer to thickness plane. I resawed 8/4 lumber to make the bookmatched panels for the side and doors. The pulls were made from the same curly maple as the shelves. The drawers have handcut half blind dovetails at the front and handcut thru dovetails at the back. The drawer bottom is solid maple with hand bevel for the drawer grooves. The cabinet is finished with two coats of Waterlox Original and three coats of satin Waterlox. All finish material was applied by hand rubbing. The overall size of the cabinet is 84" T, 24" W, 14" D.
